Del Mar Foundation

Del Mar Foundation

CMIM was invited to participate in an event called “Picnic at Powerhouse Park”, hosted by the Del Mar Foundation. Our theme for the event was “Bringing Chess to Del Mar”.

The event was a huge success, not only in terms of turnout and positive feedback, but also in achieving our goal of community-building.

We had eight tables of chess matches running throughout the day, and people did not shy away from challenging the master, taking part in instruction and picking up some friendly pointers.

Chess in Del Mar.

Anytime we can engage kids and adults on the chess board is a successful day!

Chess Enrichment Programs

Chess Enrichment Programs

We love this time of year – we meet so many new participants as well as reconnecting with old friends. From beginners to traveling chess team members, our instructors do quality work in creating positive experiences in our chess programs.

CMIM

teach chess programs throughout San Diego County, and we are no longer the best kept secret in chess. More schools are joining the community, offering chess to students. Those schools that have been onboard for years are glad to be a part of one of San Diego’s strongest and most active organization.

Updated Chess Camp Location

Updated Chess Camp Location

Updated location for chess camp : Thanks to our friends at the Redwood Bridge Club, we have a lovely space, not too far from the Chess Club, still located in beautiful Balboa Park. The address of the club is 3111 6th Ave San Diego, CA 92103.
Extensive renovations have been underway at the San Diego Chess Club for more than a year. For those of you familiar with the club, you know the renovations were needed, and very welcome. Unfortunately, the renovations are taking longer than expected, and we must hold the summer chess camp at an alternate location.
Thanks to our friends at the Redwood Bridge Club, we have a lovely space, not too far from the Chess Club, still located in beautiful Balboa Park. The address of the club is 3111 6th Ave San Diego, CA 92103.
The club is the building in the park, near the intersection of Redwood and 6th Avenue.
This should be an exciting two weeks of chess! There are big groups signed up for both weeks, so every child will have peers at a similar level to play. We also have a seasoned team of instructors, all competitive chess players, who have experience teaching kids. This will be an energetic and supportive learning enviroment!
San Diego County Fair

San Diego County Fair

What a treat to be a part of the San Diego Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.  We had a chance to entertain newcomers as well as seasoned veterans for a day on this beautiful world of 64 squares.  You could feel the excitement from the young while the old brought a more serious demeanor while they tried to take down the masters.

See you guys next year!

SuperNational VI

SuperNational VI

A year from now, we will be going to the SuperNationals in Nashville TN. SuperNationals is an event that the USCF put on every four years. It will take place May 12-14 2017 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center.  The USCF will showcase its best. SuperNationals is a must play event.  Plan to get your chess on.

This tournament has a rich history.  It started in 1997 and 2017 will be the 6th time the USCF will  hold this exclusive event.  Players and coaches from all across the US will come and take part.  The last time it was held it drew more than 5,000 participants.  Can it break through 6,000 in 2017?
