Summer Camp 2017

We are excited to announce that in July we will offer 3 separate weeks of summer camps together with the San Diego Chess Club.  All students from K through 12 are welcome.  Our sessions are designed to engage all skill levels.  Individual instructors will lead students through out the sessions.   Summer Chess Camp 2017 Dates:     July 10-14     July 17-21     July 24-28 Times:    9 am – Noon Fee:         $175 / week Venue:   San Diego Chess Club, 2225 6th Ave San Diego CA 92101   Special Options / Accommodations: Early Registration:  Register by May 15th to receive a 20% discount on registration. Sibling Discount:  Receive 50% off registration for each additional sibling. Early drop off:  Early drop off is available from 7.30 am for a $10 / day fee.   Let us know if you need help connecting with Balboa Park afternoon camps. After 2 years of construction, the San Diego Chess Club will open again this month!  We will meet on Friday, March 24th , at the newly refurbished club. Red Wood Bridge Club

A big shout out to the Redwood Bridge Club.  An excellent host for the last couple of years, we have only a few more chess sessions here before we move back into the San Diego Chess Club. Our Friday evening chess club has been held of the Bridge Club for the last couple of years. When no one wanted to host, the Bridge Club stepped up and welcomed the junior chess players of San Diego, an absolute godsend. Hanley Chess Academy

We like the tournaments hosted by Hanley Chess Academy. The competitions are well run and there are always plenty of trophies! SDCC and CMIM are always well represented. We always look forward to success as a team. The 75-minute drive north does not discourage   vibrant participation! We usually bring a team of 15 to 20 participants, most of whom are ranked players. Our team is often the best-represented, and the most successful in terms of winning and placing in the tournaments. Our students perform extremely well, both individually and as a team. Del Mar Foundation

CMIM was invited to participate in an event called “Picnic at Powerhouse Park”, hosted by the Del Mar Foundation. Our theme for the event was “Bringing Chess to Del Mar”. The event was a huge success, not only in terms of turnout and positive feedback, but also in achieving our goal of community-building. We had eight tables of chess matches running throughout the day, and people did not shy away from challenging the master, taking part in instruction and picking up some friendly pointers. Chess Enrichment Programs

We love this time of year – we meet so many new participants as well as reconnecting with old friends. From beginners to traveling chess team members, our instructors do quality work in creating positive experiences in our chess programs. Summer Campers Heartfelt thanks go out to all the summer campers who attended our programs at the San Diego Chess Club and CMIM throughout the summer. Updated Chess Camp Location

Updated location for chess camp : Thanks to our friends at the Redwood Bridge Club, we have a lovely space, not too far from the Chess Club, still located in beautiful Balboa Park. The address of the club is 3111 6th Ave San Diego, CA 92103. Extensive renovations have been underway at the San Diego Chess Club for more than a year. For those of you familiar with the club, you know the renovations were needed, and very welcome. Unfortunately, the renovations are taking longer than expected, and we must hold the summer chess camp at an alternate location. Thanks to our friends at the Redwood Bridge Club, we have a lovely space, not too far from the Chess Club, still located in beautiful Balboa Park. The address of the club is 3111 6th Ave San Diego, CA 92103. The club is the building in the park, near the intersection of Redwood and 6th Avenue. This should be an exciting two weeks of chess! There are big groups signed up for both weeks, so every child will have peers at a similar level to play. San Diego County Fair

What a treat to be a part of the San Diego Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.  We had a chance to entertain newcomers as well as seasoned veterans for a day on this beautiful world of 64 squares.  You could feel the excitement from the young while the old brought a more serious demeanor while they tried to take down the masters. SuperNational VI

A year from now, we will be going to the SuperNationals in Nashville TN. SuperNationals is an event that the USCF put on every four years. It will take place May 12-14 2017 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center.  The USCF will showcase its best. SuperNationals is a must play event.  Plan to get your chess on. This tournament has a rich history.  It started in 1997 and 2017 will be the 6th time the USCF will  hold this exclusive event.  Players and coaches from all across the US will come and take part.  The last time it was held it drew more than 5,000 participants.  Can it break through 6,000 in 2017?... read more
